HISTORY

The company’s official name is J. W. Brown (Printers) Ltd but in the 1950s it was based just off the Old Kent Road in a small side street called Darwin Street. We became known as the Press in Darwin Street and inevitably picked up the trading name of Darwin Press.

Founded by our grandfather, James W. Brown, the company was originally based in Southwark’s East Street. However, most of its history was made under our father John William Brown, known affectionately as Jack.

He shaped the firm, helped build a secure client foundation and introduced many revolutionary pieces of equipment to keep the company competitive.
This sensible policy has kept us ahead today.

Deep in the heart of Greenwich

We are an energetic and enthusiastic company which is delighted, and proud, to be at the heart of Greenwich’s millennium excitement, working on a wide range of exciting projects for blue chip clients and local businesses alike.

Keeping the GREEN in Greenwich

As a company we have adopted a responsible care of the environment policy across our business & working practises. We aim to achieve high environmental standards in our day-to-day work by:
• lowering material consumption by re-using wherever possible
• minimising fuel consumption
• cutting down on road congestion
• recycling waste paper and press room chemicals
• conserving energy and reducing water consumption
purchasing practices
We accept our responsibility to the environment and expect the same of our suppliers. In fact we positively discourage any dealings with non-responsible companies.
• not all our paper is recycled, but 99% is totally chlorine free and produced from sustainable forests
• all our chemicals conform to international legislation, and those that can be are recycled
• non-recyclable chemical products are disposed of by specialist suppliers so no harmful chemicals are released into the water supply.
